When The Voice fans look back, this will be known as the Country Season. It’s when Blake Shelton ruthlessly masterminded a plot to bring five country singers to the live shows and then hand them easy, comfortable, safe country songs week after week to ensure that they get the most iTunes downloads and stick around for as long as possible.

He’s like the Karl Rove of this show. You can love him or hate him, but you can’t deny that he gets results. For the second season in a row Blake has two out of three singers in the finale and there’s a good chance he could have his third straight win with Danielle Bradbery.

But maybe I’m putting the cart before the horse. Maybe there was a groundswell of Blake hate and Usherlove and Michelle Chamuel will shock the world with a win or maybe the Okies will be line dancing all night with The Swon Brothers winning.

Before the results were revealed the contestants were asked What Would Winning Mean?

In the final Voice confessional, everyone talks about what it would mean to win. It would be a dream come true for The Swon Brothers. For Michelle Chamuel, it’s more about the hard work everyone else has done to help her than the contract itself. Danielle Brabdery wants to win for her friends, mom and Blake.

Also, today is Blake Shelton’s birthday. Of course it is. Because everything about this entire season has been all about Blake. My fingers are crossed for Miranda Lambert doing a Marilyn Monroe-esque “Happy Birthday” performance tonight.

“Feel This Moment” by Pitbull and Christina Aguilera

Xtina gets a huge reveal on the top of a series of monitors that makes it look like she’s playing Q*bert. You know what, I think this season was good because I kind of miss her. This season has been so much about Blake that I look forward to Hurricane Xtina returning for season 5 to suck up all the oxygen in the room and make everything about her. That’s why Blake has been allowed to dominate: Usher and Shakira don’t have big enough egos.

Shakira says the standout last night was the caliber of talent all season. Um, that’s NOT an answer. Adam Levine backs down from his claim that Danielle will win by saying it’s so close and anyone can win. Really? Can The Swon Brothers win? Blake claims he doesn’t care about the three-peat. Adam calls him a liar, which he is.

The boys are bringing back these three country artists for their big performance. Those are really there only three options from the Top 16, and I’ll be curious who Danielle is left with. But I will say that if the final three actually get to choose who comes back to perform with them, I really like that part of The Voice. It highlights the friendships and mutual appreciation that develops behind the scenes. As with everything the brothers do, it’s fun and entertaining.

Coach Impressions

Christina Milian shows us some fan impressions of the coaches. Little kids play Blake, but the best is some dude who does a spot-on impression of Adam telling everyone to be quiet so he can say he pushed his button first (taking time out to say “I love you, too” to a random audience member who shouted something at him).

Bromantically Challenged

Now we get a special video showing how Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s once magical bromance hit a rough patch this season, and Usher is the new man in Blake’s life. It’s the most hetero gay love triangle on TV! But by the end of the next performance, Adam is sitting on Blake’s lap, so all is well.

The producers are great at finding perfect duets for the finale. Michelle fits into this song like a hand in a glove. This is certainly her genre and it’s the kind of music she’ll probably be doing.

In a pretty funny video, Blake shows off that he can do Usher’s coaching techniques. He makes The Swon Brothers work out with Shake-Weights and he makes Danielle Bradbery look at herself in a fun house mirror before doing some Karate Kid chopstick practice to catch her notes. The Swon Brothers + Blake Shelton = Comedy Gold.

“Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line with Nelly

OK, yeah, I get it. This is a very catchy little country song. I recently spent some time in Florida with my kid sister, and this is the kind of stuff I imagine she listens to with all of her friends while driving around looking for some creek to go tubing in. But I still don’t understand why Mr. “Hot in Herre” is singing on this song. It’s like Brooks and Dunn featuring Lil Jon.

The Voice Confessional

In a best of the rest segment, we see Michelle Chamuel doing a sock puppet dance party and Usher splitting his pants. The stars, as always, are The Swon Brothers. We see more of them in drag and we learn Colton once got a perm so he could look like Matthew McConaughey. Seriously, someone needs to sign them up for a reality show. CMT? Spike? These guys are massively watchable.

But before we get to the finalists, we had two group performances:

A passionate Shakira, cool Usher, casual Blake Shelton and goateed Adam Levine teamed up for The Beatles’ With a Little Help From My Friends. And the Top 16 finalists all shared the stage for Home by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.

Back to the top three: Here’s how the singers made out with their “defining moment” songs, duets and new tunes:

Team Blake’s The Swon Brothers

Zach and Colton Swon’s “defining moment” song was Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina. Colton told USA TODAY that the last time they performed it, the response”blew our minds.” Blake thought the harmonies sounded even tighter than ever, and the classic song feels like it should already be on the radio. “I guarantee you they’re playing y’all’s version of Danny’s Song back home (in Oklahoma),” he said. Shakira showed her support with an “Okies” flag.

Before the Swon Brothers performed with Coach Blake, the Swon parents told Blake that they disciplined the boys by sending them to their rooms and forcing them to write a song. Seems to be effective.

Next, Colton, Zach and Blake joined forces for Celebrity by Brad Paisley. They actually worked well as a trio.

The brothers went with another Eagles song (they’ve sung Seven Bridges Roadbefore) for their new tune, performing I Can’t Tell You Why. The main point of choosing the song? To show off some never-before-heard falsetto. “It’s great that you guys finally found the girl part of your voice,” said Usher. Eagles fan and falsetto king Adam thought the song was “incredible.”

Usher selected Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble as the “defining moment” for Michelle to reprise. That meant lots of fire, squats and yells that the crowd ate up. Carson Daly told USA TODAY that Michelle “always gets the loudest screams after performances,” and this song was no exception. “People are screaming so loud our ears hurt,” confirmed Adam. Added Shakira, “I’m so glad that you made it to the end, because you’re needed out there as an artist.” Shakira showed her support by wearing big glasses.

After Usher told Michelle’s family “I found my diamond in the rough,” Michelle and Usher dueted with U2′s One. The unexpected choice yielded some fun results. The crowd was clapping while the two were hugging, crouching and belting in surprising harmony. It was an all-around good time.

New selection Why by Annie Lennox meant more mirror-singing (like she did with Grenade a few weeks back). But it wasn’t a mirror. It was a monitor with a pre-recorded Michelle listening to live Michelle. Then, live Michelle was joined by a choir for some big, emotional notes. Blake said, “I’m still freaked out about that mirror trick that you did. That was cool!” Coach Usher complimented his singer. “Likability and capability, to me that represents a successful artist. And that is what you possess,” he said.

Team Blake’s Danielle Bradbery

Danielle’s “defining moment” was Maybe it was Memphis by Pam Tillis. This time around, her tone was as beautiful as ever and she looked confident on that stage. She was so good, Adam was ready to handicap the race. “I think Danielle’s the winner of this thing,” he said. Shakira showed her support by wearing a cowboy hat.

Aside from the fact that she and Blake locked eyes and sang “I woke up with you in my arms” to each other, the duet sounded great. But Timber I’m Falling in Love by Patty Loveless is a love song, so having the 16-year-old Danielle sing it to the married Blake was a little uncomfortable.

Born to Fly by Sara Evans was Danielle’s new pick of the night (after she sang A Little Bit Stronger on the show two weeks ago). Adam was pretty much speechless. “What else could I possibly say? Your perfection is almost boring at this point. You’re amazing, still,” he said. Blake said, “I’m one of the millions of people out there that you have wrapped around your finger. I just thank God that you came to The Voice to debut yourself.”

Erin is a 25 year old accountant that entered the Miss Connecticut competition on a whim. She said, “why not, I might as well try” and It was her boyfriend, Tony Capasso, who had told her not to wear make-up during the pageant, It seems as if it payed off.

Erin dazzled in an orange bikini with a matching halter-top as she strutted to the Jonas Brother’s “Pom Poms.” Later, she sported a strapless gown with a spangled golden corset and long white train.

But what might have gave Miss Connecticut the edge was her response to her question about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold widespread DNA tests.

With out any hesitation she answered, “If someone is being prosecuted and committed a crime, it should happen. There are so many crimes that if that’s one step closer to stopping them, then we should be able to do so.”

Meanwhile, Miss Utah, stumbled in her response about income desparity…

The young pop sensation group, Fifth harmony was formed by Simon Cowell on his hit TV reality singing show,  X Factor.

Fifth Harmony is now looking to release their first single this summer. The young starletts said their experience on the show was amazing and that they all supported one another and were thankful to have each other to lean on in the tough times.

After reports surfaced a Canadian bartender and part-time model claimed she was hand-picked by the rapper out of a concert crowd just three months after Kimye began.

Kanye’s taken a point to make it known this couldn’t be more untrue.

Kanye’s rep insists this is merely just another attack and completely without merit. Adding, “it’s a blatant attempt by a misguided individual who is clearly seeking publicity, and another in a series of malicious stories drummed up by non-credible ‘news’ sources.”
